Jenny & Chet | Sydney Town Hall Engagement

Jenny & Chet | Sydney Town Hall Engagement

Jenny & Chet’s Sydney Town Hall engagement shoot took place on a sun-drenched Easter Saturday in the heart of the city — busy, vibrant, and full of movement — which made the quiet, in-between moments we captured together feel even more special.

Despite the pace of the Sydney CBD, the session itself was relaxed and easy. We moved at a comfortable rhythm, letting the city flow around us while creating portraits that felt natural, connected, and true to who Jenny and Chet are together.

From a Coffee Catch-Up to an Engagement Shoot in the City

Jenny and Chet originally reached out about their upcoming Bimbadgen Palmers Lane wedding in the Hunter Valley. Not long after, we caught up for coffee at Jimmy Joans, and what was meant to be a quick meeting turned into hours of talking through their plans, ideas, and overall vision for the day.

They were calm, thoughtful, and very clear about what they wanted — not overly posed images, but photographs that felt genuine and reflected their connection. An engagement shoot felt like the perfect way to ease into that, especially with the wedding still some time away.

Why Sydney Town Hall Works So Well for Engagement Photos

Sydney Town Hall offers a timeless backdrop that works beautifully for engagement sessions. The warm sandstone exterior, grand staircases, and architectural detail provide a strong visual foundation without overpowering the people in front of the camera.

From there, we explored nearby locations including the Queen Victoria Building, Hyde Park, and areas around Darling Harbour, creating a varied collection of portraits that felt cohesive but never repetitive.

Each location added a slightly different mood — classic, romantic, open, or modern — which is one of the biggest advantages of shooting in the city.

Finding Calm Within the City

One of my favourite parts of the session was working with contrast — the stillness of Jenny and Chet together against the constant motion of Sydney around them. Moments like the reflections near the Pool of Reflection, or quiet pauses between steps, helped balance the busyness and created images that felt calm and intentional.

We finished the shoot in Darling Harbour at a spot that held personal meaning for them — a place they spent time together early in their relationship. Including locations that matter personally always adds another layer to the photos and makes the session feel uniquely theirs.

A Natural, Relaxed Approach to Engagement Photography

Every engagement shoot is approached differently, based on the couple, their energy, and what feels right for them. Jenny and Chet were happiest when they could simply walk, talk, and enjoy the afternoon together — and that’s exactly how this session unfolded.

Those quiet moments, combined with the texture and scale of the city, made for a collection of images that felt both cinematic and grounded.

Behind the Scenes

This session was also captured on video, filmed by Andy. You can watch the behind-the-scenes video below to see how the afternoon unfolded and what the session felt like in real time.
