Sunrise Engagement Shoot - Bri & Alex

Bri & Alex, soon to be married at Riverwood Downs in the Upper Hunter, were keen on an early morning, sunrise engagement shoot. So we made it happen, and oh, was it worth the early rise.

This location has become one of my favourite lookout spots for wedding & engagement photos when in the Hunter Valley. It provides the perfect mix of trails and views that go on forever. It is also close to many well-known wedding venues that I photograph often.

A 4:30 AM start saw me on the road by 5:00 AM, which would have me arriving at the shoot location by 6:00 AM, just as the first light began to shine through. Bri & Alex arrived soon after, and we started exploring the open field at the top of the lookout. The orange glow began to intensify as the sun rose, wrapping the couple in beautiful soft light.

Playing around with the direction of light once the sun had appeared from behind the mountain saw us checking out the surrounding trails & various other photo ops.

There is truly something unique about sunrise & the light it produces. The same location can look so different with the opposite angle of light as it throws shadows across a landscape that we have captured many times before, more often than not at sunset on a couple's wedding day. So, if you want your engagement shoot to have a very distinguishable difference, even if we are photographing places I have captured many times before, let's do sunrise!
