Amber & Josh | Merewether Surfhouse Wedding
Amber & Josh’s Merewether Surfhouse Wedding - Newcastle
Amber & Josh's Merewether Surfhouse wedding was stunning!
Let's rewind a bit; I first met these two lovers at another wedding I was photographing where Amber was a bridesmaid for Bride Abbie. Abbie's wedding was beautiful, with a fantastic venue and perfect weather, although a little hot. But one thing that caused some unnecessary stress was a makeup malfunction.
Due to the high humidity and temperature, Abbie's makeup had nearly all gone by the end of the ceremony. So we put a hold on photos, I made a few phone calls to some makeup artist friends, and within 30 mins, Hannah James Makeup was there to redo the Bride's makeup and touch up the bridesmaids' makeup. Because of this, the bridesmaids labelled me the wedding fairy & from that day, Amber knew she wanted to book me as her wedding photographer.
Now back to Amber & Josh's wedding. A warm February day saw these two tie the knot in King Edward Park, under the shade of the trees. A beautiful setting for a wedding. Post-ceremony, we photographed family photos in the park before heading out to a few nearby locations for photos. A super adventurous & trusting couple, Amber & Josh didn't hesitate when we made our way to our first location. Starting at the cliffside overlooking the Bogey Hole, a landscape with fantastic texture, earthy tones & stunning light—climbing over the fence & walking hand in hand along the ledge.
We then made our way up to the top of the park, capturing some drone imagery thanks to licensed operator Brad of GMTMT, who also captured video on the day.
With the wedding reception at Merewether Surfhouse, we utilised the surrounding trails pre-reception to get shade and a softer look than the high contrast light of the first few spots. Hickson St lookout was the perfect spot for photos with the entire bridal party, blocked from the wind and surrounded by pastel greens; it was excellent.
From Hickson St, we returned to Merewether Surfhouse for their wedding reception. Knowing that we would later head outside for some sunset shots at Merewether Ocean Baths.
Music for the reception saw none other than the man, the myth, the legend, Howard Shearman doing his thing. One of the top wedding vendors for music in the region. Following the evening's formalities, we went outside for sunset with the newlyweds; the dreamy clouds, paired with the waves smashing along the coastline, made for one flawless sunset. After this, we headed back into the reception for the couple's first dance and the party segment of the night to get into full swing.
It was great to be part of their day. And photographing the Newcastle coastline always guarantees amazing images!
